Prehistoric finds from the Bronze Age and found on Mount Corno testify to the antiquity of human settlement in this place. Its territory is located in the amphitheater of hills, formed by the flow downstream of the glacier which has now given way to Lake Garda (the old "Benacus"). The original name of the village was "Asiona", later Sona, whose etymology is uncertain. In Century BC the hill was fortified to control via "Gallica". Fallen the Roman Empire, Sona became domain of the Lombards, then, in sec. XIV, it came under the protection of the rule of Verona; in sec. XIX the territory was often the theater of the Wars of Independence .. Sona, besides the beauty offered by its hilltop location, with panoramic views of the Alpine foothills from Brescia and Trentino, on the Monte Baldo, the Lessini Mountains and the Group of Carega, is adorned with buildings of great historical and artistic and cultural. In the center is the parish church, built in the '700 and dedicated to the Visitation of the Virgin Mary to St. Elizabeth, while in the suburbs, you can admire two other churches, that of San Quirico and Giuditta, dedicated to the two saints martyred Christians beginning the fourth century, and that of St. Saviour, today cemetery chapel. In the Park of Villa Trevisani-Calderara (Park payable to cav. Romans) stands the famous "Spire", used in the battles of 1848 as a military watch tower. The history of Sona and the surrounding area is also demonstrated by the presence of important and valuable mansions; among these mention Villa "Sparici-Landini" that was the Angheben with its monumental avenue of cypresses, Villa "Trevisani-Calderara", "Consolaro-Turata" (former Jesuit monastery until 1915), "Giarola-Previtali" , "Menegazzi-Sparavieri-Macola", "Silvestri" called "The Sellara", and others. In the countryside of Sona they are spread the hardworking short, the younger sisters of the villas, among which: "Montresora", "Guastalla Nuova", "Guastalla Vecchia", "Ca 'Vecia", "Colombaron", "Centurara", " Sgrifona ".
