From the 11th to the 26th July, new geographic and musical horizons join up in the most fascinating locations of the city.

Now in its eight edition, the Venezia Jazz Festival  will be taking place with a rich programme of events from the 11th to the 26th of July. The German singer Ute Lemper  is the star of the festival, performing at the Teatro La Fenice (19 July, 8 pm), with the “Last Tango in Berlin – from Brecht in Berlin to the bars of Buenos Aires”.  Before she  begins, an open tango performance by master professionals with live music will take place in Campo San Fantin, in front of the theatre (starting from 6 pm). Singer, dancer, actress, author and charismatic performer, Ute Lemper presents an extraordinary repertoire. The concert will be a journey from Berlin to Buenos Aires, from Brecht to Piazzolla, with the interpretation of tangos from all over the world in Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and English. A tribute to that art and to its stories of love, life, death and destiny.

The other artists in the programme, hosted in amazing locations (Chiesa della Pietà, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Punta della Dogana, Teatrino Grassi, Palazzo Pisani), in charming hotels and on enchanting cruises in the lagoon of Venice, come from the most diversified geographic and musical backgrounds. The Instanbul Sessions with the saxophonist Ilhan Ersahin (music partner of Norah Jones) presents a mix of avant-jazz and groove with an exotic taste (Punta della Dogana, 11 July, 8 pm). The Russian Dimitri Grechi Espinoza performs with his saxophone in sacred locations, using the deep and mystical echo (Chiesa della Pietà, 15 July, 7 pm).

The singer Oren Lavie, smooth and soft voice, presents the atmosphere of his most famous song  Her morning elegance, famous on youtube for the video filmed instop motion (17 July, 9:30 pm, Teatrino Grassi). The  accordion and sax duo of Vincent Peirani, new rising star and winner of the ‘Django d‘Or’ and of ‘Victoires du Jazz’,  together with Emile Parisien, perform compositions by Sidney Bechet and  Duke Ellington (22 July, 9 pm, Peggy Guggenheim Collection).

The duo Redi Hasa, solist in the Ludovico Einaudi ensemble, & Maria Mazzotta, singer of the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, combine the powerful notes of the cello with vocal lightness in a Mediterranean repertoire (23 July, 9:30 pm, Teatrino Grassi). For the project E.M.A.Y.T (Europe Music Award for Young Talent), international showcase of young talents promoted by Veneto Jazz, the Music Conservatory Benedetto Marcello hosts the performance of the piano solo Giovanni Guidi, ECM artist, one of the most talented young artists in the Italian jazz scene (20 July, 8 pm) and the German trumpet player Uli Beckerhoff, performing with three talented German musicians, presenting their new album (24 July, 8 pm).

The amazing terraces of the Hotel Hilton Molino Stucky and of the Starhotels Splendid Venice Hotel will be the scenario for the concerts of the Israeli guitar player Rotem Sivan (23 July, 9.30 pm) and for a light dinner cocktail with the voice of the Brasilian Heloisa Lourenço (25 July, 8 pm). While on the 16th July and on the 26th  July there will be a cruise on the beautiful lagoon of Venice, for listening to jazz and bossanova music, tasting typical Venetian appetizers and prosecco wine “Bacaro jazz on board”.

From the 18th to the 25th July, the Summer Jazz Workshop (25th edition), international jazz workshop produced in collaboration with the New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music of New York, will take place in Chioggia, close to Venice. Among the regional concerts, this one is recommended with its tribute to the Frank Zappa genius presented by Stefano Bollani (with Jason Adasiewicz on vibraphone, Paul Santner on double bass, Jim Black on drums) in the medieval fortress Rocca dei Tempesta in Noale, Venezia (21 July,  21:30 pm).
