The municipality of Conco (called Kunken in an old german dialect) is  an Italian village of about 2,200 inhabitants of the Vicenza province located in Veneto, that is a part of the “Seven municipalities Plateau”, also famous as “Asiago Plateau”.

Dodatne informacije
The commune of Conco (called “Kunken”, that means pit, basin) is located in the south-east area of the Plateau. It overlooks the cities of Bassano and Marostica and it has an extension of about 27 km2s.
Since the ancient times, little communities lived in this area, as proved by some excavations in “Val Lastaro”, where it was found a small village that dates back 11.000 years ago.
Our village had been a part of the Plateau, because of a donation of some lands that the Longobard Emperor “Berengario I” made to “SIbicone”, bishop in Padoua in 917.
The first official document where we can see the name of two localities that are a part of our municipality (“Bagnaria” and “Lastaria”) dates 983.
Germanic people occupied first this territory, but later both some Bavarian people from the North and some Italic people from the South came in this area (this is the reason why we have some words in our dialect that originates both from an old German dialect and from the Italian).
People who used to talk a particular type of old German dialect were called CIMBRI, and their own dialect were named CIMBRO.
After the Padouan bishops government and power failed, the Asiago Plateau ha been linked first at Vicenza, then at the Ezzelinis’ family, and finally at the city of Padoua, until the domination of the Venetian Republic, called The Serenissima”. The annexation act dated February 20th, 1405, when the local population decided to go under the Venetian rule voluntarily.
But after the Ezzelinis’ fall, on the Asiago Plateau there were a sort of democratic republic called “Spettabile Reggenza dei sette Comuni” (Respactable Regency of the Seven Communes).
On the other hand Venice knew the strategic importance of this area, that at the time was near the border with the Austrian Empire, and for this reason it had a lot of tax exemptions and duty-free. The Regency had always been loyal to Venice. In fact it gave the Regency assistance during the war between Venice and Sigismondo, the archduke of Austria (1487), during the war after the “Lega di Cabbrai” (1508), during the “Lega Santa” war (1510), and for the defence of the Castle in Marostica (1513).
All these facts are remembered into our commune armorial bearings, which was born in December 1st, 1681, when Conco had been separated from an other local place, the commune of Roveredo Alto (that included Crosara, Vallonara and Valle San Floriano).
After The Republic of Venice fall, all the political and economic privileges (that Conco had been having until that period) disappeared. So people in this area became very poor and had no rights at all. In fact, Napoleon came at first, then the Lombardo Veneto Reign, and finally the annexation to the Italian Reign in 1867.
During the World War I, Conco was the prompt zone behind the front, both in June 1916 and starting from September 1917 until the end of the war. There are a lot of war cemetery to remind the people this disaster.
Conco is one of the municipality that had been rewarded for military valour and for the partisan struggle after September 8th, 1943.
