RISTORANTE DA MARIO ALLA FAVA A VENETIAN EVENING ON THE OCCASION OF EXPO 2015 A MOST SERENE TASTING
Venice between food and legend
The evening – which will be organized according to the modes of storytelling and the transmission of the oral tradition – will be subdivided into two narrative blocs: the first at the beginning, as soon as the diners have been served appetizers, the second at the moment of the dessert. The first bloc will have a connection between Venice and food, and between food and some Venetian legends. The second relates to old legends and myths about the city, its customs, its less known specific characteristics.

First Part
In Venice toponymy (study of place names) is pure magic: there are thousands of Saints and thousands of noble families, true, but often it transcends into legend, and it is amusing to recount the names of thousands of crafts of the past. Derived directly from oral tradition, street names are assigned according to the areas of activity which took place there, to facts which occurred, and therefore, it is possible also to find some events here related to food. And it is here that we have bridges and courtyards of watermelon, but also little squares of melons, courtyards of (capparozzolo) and bridges of ostreghe, courtyards of figs, courtyards of vida and little squares of vineyards such as the underpass of grapes), the quay of megio, streets of nomboli and quays of penini which return us directly to the square of beccarie.  At the Rialto there is a phantasmagoria of casaria, aranzeria, erberia (special herb shops), percaria (fish market)…  in Venice you will find courtyards of cheese merchants, courtyards of coffee maker shops, streets of acquavitaj, but also fruit merchants, luganegher, sclaeter, spice merchants… you will also come across pistors (the people who sell bread), the forner (the one who bakes it) and the pestrin (who instead sells milk).
You will find riva of wine and millions of streets of malvasia (dessert wine), a street of ravano, a bridge of ogio, a bridge of milk (well yes, in the feminine gender, as it was used at one time), a street of sugar (but also warehouses of salt). And a special bridge, the bridge of beans.

Navigating the waters inside Venice, in the middle of such salt water you could intersect the bow of the boat with the sweet Rio di l’Acqua (“river of water”), which takes this name from the fact that there the boats were moored with the indispensable liquid for filling the civic wells.
Finally, going around the city streets, you can come across the quay of dried salt cod.

Second part
The lace of sirens (the origin of Burano lace).
Legends related to the toponymy: Donna Onesta, Riva de Biasio, Pont de l’Anzolo, Ponte de le Maravegia (I will tell the legend of the seven sisters of the River of Maravegia).
The legend of Bocolo (the Rose of Paladino).
The girl who was never buried (a 19th-century mystery story)

Our Surprise of 2015 is our Vegan menu offering a complete Vegan meal.

The Trattoria “Da Mario alla Fava”, opened its doors in 1960, when Mario Bonavita decided to realize his dream of opening a cozy restaurant to rediscover the true Venetian cuisine that had been forgotten by the locals, neglected by journalists and snubbed by gourmets.
The familiar atmosphere and the excellent quality of the dishes  soon declared  “Trattoria Da Mario alla Fava" one of the most famous Venetian restaurants, and through the years his children Guido and Luca have inherited his art of fine dining.

Today,  they carry on with the same passion handed down from their father, and they are continuously looking for quality products to satisfy their diners’ needs.
With true Venetian dishes, an extensive wine list, a friendly atmosphere and impeccable service with an eye for every detail, Trattoria “Da Mario alla Fava” will make you rediscover the classic flavors of fine Venetian cuisine.

We invite you to visit our new website to celebrate our 55th year of business, enjoying the moments of the past as timely as ever.
